This Sunday our team will worship with the Kakamegatown PEFA church and I would like to do something to help the church in its current challenge to build a new facility. Several months ago they had a big setback. They had started a remodel project to add more space to the church. The plan was to build a balcony and expand by taking down some walls. They had a big surprise however, when the city inspectors came and told them that the main columns and foundations supporting the roof were inadequate and the whole structure had to be torn down. What a shock! The whole building was leveled to the ground. One day they had a church that would seat 800 people and the next day they had none. I’ll say this! Kenyans are very resourceful! Within a week they had built a very large temporary building from timbers and corrugated iron sheets, with a dirt floor. This is a “déjà vu all over again” because 30 years ago, before they built the church, we met in just this kind of temporary facility.
Now a project that was going to cost $100,000 suddenly is going to cost over $300,000. So, when we visit this Sunday, I would like to make a pledge of $5000 to $10,000 or more, from myself and the Worldcomp family of donors to help make this dream come true. There are two questions that I have heard from my friends that I would like to answer. One is: With all the pressing needs Worldcomp has for its projects, how can you consider raising money for building a church? My answer to that is plain and simple, “This is how we’ve always operated”. We have always been generous and I believe this is one of the reasons God has blessed us the way that He has. We have been generous to numerous organizations and individuals whenever the Lord has put their needs before us. The second question is, “Why do you feel led to invest in this particular church project?” My answer is this! From the beginning, this church, more than any other church, has been a part of the foundation of our work. Most of our initial leaders have come from this wonderful church. Their members have worked with us to start most of our projects and their pastor and youth have labored alongside of us here in Western Kenya from the start. But my reasons for helping has more to do with the future than the past! As we now open our Home of Grace Children’s Home, just a few miles from the church, I know with absolute certainly that the members of this church will be there for our kids. They will love them, serve them, support them, nurture them, bring them food and provide a great church environment for them as they heal and grow in God.
Now that I have said all this! I want to ask you to consider making a financial pledge to help with this project. Every dime that comes in will go to this project. Would you give this some thought and let me know by email what you are able to do? Just email me at rvicknair and let me know and I will announce the results on Sunday morning.
As always I write to all of you with such great appreciation for your generosity, love and prayers. Together we have made a huge difference in the world. We have saved lives, shown the love of God and introduced many to Christ.
Blessings to you and yours.
