Have you ever had low expectations for an event that turned out to be one of the most significant things that has ever happened? Valerie and I both entered the Pastors’ Conference in Kakamega with low expectations. A married couples’ seminar for Luya pastors and their wives is always a tough assignment. There are so many cultural barriers that hinder these couples from experiencing God’s design for marriage, but yesterday, as we closed the seminar we knew that the Lord had accomplished something very significant. Our low expectations were greeted by one of the most powerful responses we have ever had in an event for Kenyan pastors. This conference will be talked about for years in the Kakamega area.As Simeon Obayo closed the seminar we were so blessed to hear that some of the senior leaders shared from their hearts. One older man shared, “I have been in ministry for many years, but no teaching on marriage has ever impacted our lives like this. My wife and I will never be the same!” All through the conference there were comments like that. At the end of the conference we were so honored by all and their appreciation was overwhelming. They gathered around us and earnestly prayed for God’s blessings on our lives.
Here in Kenya we are 100% committed to helping the poor, the widow and the orphan and sometimes it appears that speaking in churches and to leaders is something in the sidebar, but if there is ever going to be an end to the epidemic of corruption here and the dysfunction of families, I think it must start in the Church.
As Valerie and I made our way to Nairobi yesterday, we were overwhelmed with joy and gratefulness to the Lord for His mercies. Every day is a miracle for us when we are here. Don’t get me wrong, ministering in Kenya is a tough assignment, but “The sufferings of this present world are not worthy to be compared with the glory that is revealed.”
We are now checked into our apartment in Nairobi and will take two days to rest and recharge before we are back in the Kibera slums on Sunday.
I am ever so grateful for your prayers and the financial support which makes this possible.
Blessings to you and yours
Richard
