We spent the day today taking care of Valerie’s health. Since the day we arrived she has been on a variety of antibiotics for several ailments. The tropical climate of Kenya seems to activate bacteria and viruses in her system at a rapid rate. For years she has worked hard at building her immune system, but there is no doubt that the Devil knows how powerfully the Lord uses her here and uses every means at his disposal to attack her.
Throughout this week we have made a number of visits to the clinic. Finally, we have found that she has a bacteria called Pseudomonas and today we also found that she has two bacteria called Pyelitis and cystitis in her left Kidney. All of these are tough bacteria to deal with and resistant to many antibiotics, so yesterday and today and tomorrow she will receive a daily IV dose of antibiotic and she will also take five more days of Moxi-Floxin. We were concerned yesterday that we might have to leave early and take her back home, but I believe the Lord has restored our confidence that she will be fine with the proper treatment.
So we move forward trusting in the Lord. Valerie was greatly encouraged today by the Scripture in her daily reading from Deuteronomy 31:7-8
“Be strong and courageous, for you shall go with this people into the land which the LORD has sworn to their fathers to give them, and you shall give it to them as an inheritance.8 The LORD is the one who goes ahead of you; He will be with you. He will not fail you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.”
This is particularly relevant, because we are about to go with our dear friend, Lucy Kamau, into Masai Land, where we will launch the construction of a community well, hold a medical camp and share the gospel with one of the few remaining “Unreached People Groups” in Kenya. This well will be serving the Girls Rescue Center that Lucy has been running for years.
Co-incidentally, as we were leaving from breakfast this morning, Valerie had the strongest feeling that she should stop and greet a woman at one of the tables. She was a total stranger, but it was like she was wearing a sign that said “Stop and talk to me”. Come to find out, they were a couple who has been running a girls rescue center here in Kenya for the past 10 years. We really connected with this couple. They are the kind of people who will be true friends and partners in our work with girls at risk in Kenya.
Our special thanks to those who have committed to keep us in prayer. It makes all the difference in the world.
We love you all
Richard and Valerie
